Nigeria’s NDLEA Intercepts Two Drug-Laden Boats, Arrests Six Foreign Nationals

The Nigerian National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant breakthroughs in its fight against drug trafficking, arresting six foreign nationals and intercepting two boats carrying 1,960 kilograms of illicit drugs known as “Ghanaian Loud.”

Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, disclosed that the operation occurred on Christmas Eve and involved two Ghanaians and four Beninese nationals.

The suspects, identified as Godsway John (38), Freedom Kelvin (33), Chegoun Hounsou (23), Gadabor Nyameto (47), Adantg Sasa (34), and Ayao Kayivi (21), were taken into custody.

In a separate operation, NDLEA officers apprehended a Paris-bound businessman, Orizu Ifeanyi Arthur, at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, for smuggling 74 wraps of heroin and cocaine.

The 48-year-old suspect was arrested on December 22, 2024, while attempting to board Air France flight 844. Orizu initially refused a body scan citing medical reasons, but subsequent investigation revealed he had ingested the illicit substances. Over seven days in custody, he excreted the drugs.

Orizu, who owns a shop at Balogun Market on Lagos Island, admitted he was promised €3,000 to deliver the drugs in Paris. To avoid detection, he had travelled from Lagos to Abuja to board the international flight.
