Nigerien Army Kills Over 100 Terrorists in Ongoing Operations

The Nigerien army announced on Thursday that it has killed more than 100 terrorists during a series of air and ground operations. The operations aim to neutralize the terrorist group responsible for the deadly attack in Tassia.

In a recent report, the army highlighted that “land and air operations are continuing to target the terrorist group responsible for the Tassia attack.” On June 25, a coalition of armed groups attacked near the village of Tassia, in the Téra department of western Niger, resulting in the deaths of 20 soldiers and a civilian.

The army’s response led to the elimination of “several dozen terrorists,” according to the report.

A raid in Kolman and searches in the markets of Dougouro and Bankilaré, three towns in the Téra area, resulted in the neutralization of eight terrorists and the arrest of nineteen others between Sunday, June 30, and Wednesday, July 3.

On Monday, July 1, “at least 20 terrorists died and their logistics were destroyed” during a drone strike on their base in a valley about 4 km north of Kokoloko, near the Burkina Faso border.

The army had previously reported on Wednesday, June 26, that it had neutralized “about thirty terrorists” and “destroyed their means of war” in the same region during an air raid.

The Téra district, located in the Tillabéri region within the tri-border area between Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso, has become a haven for Sahelian armed groups affiliated with Daesh and Al-Qaeda.
