The Nigerien authorities have announced new measures regarding the conditions for the entry and stay of foreigners in the country.
The President of the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Homeland (CNSP) and Head of State, General Abdourahmane Tiani, signed an order today outlining the new regulations.
Under the terms of this order, the entry and stay of foreigners require the possession of valid travel or residence permits and documents.
The order also specifies that individuals caught violating these provisions may face administrative measures such as expulsion, rejection, administrative detention, repatriation, or return to the border. Additionally, criminal sanctions may apply.
These criminal penalties include imprisonment ranging from two to five years and fines between five million CFA francs (10,000 USD) and 50 million CFA francs (100,000 USD) for any foreigner expelled from Niger who refuses to leave or returns unlawfully.
The same penalties will be applied to Nigerien citizens who harbor or accommodate foreigners in violation of this order.
