Nigerien Government Calls On Rebel Groups to Lay Down Arms

The Nigerien government has appealed to rebel groups to cease hostilities and lay down their arms as the country faces an escalating threat from terrorist affiliates.

Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine made this call during a high-level meeting between General Abdurahmane Tiani and Nigeriens engaged alongside the national army.

The call for peace comes at a time when Niger is grappling with increased armed attacks, particularly from groups linked to terrorist organizations.

The government’s plea is aimed at fostering national unity and addressing the security challenges that have plagued the country, especially in its border regions.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Zeine emphasized the importance of dialogue and reconciliation, asking all armed groups to contribute to the stabilization of Niger by abandoning violence and engaging in constructive discussions.

He stressed that the government’s priority is to restore peace and security, which are essential for the country’s development and the well-being of its citizens.
