Over 4,000 Malian Migrants Repatriated Amid Challenging Conditions

Over 4,000 Malian migrants were repatriated between January and mid-June, as disclosed on Wednesday by Mossa Ag Attaher, the Malian Minister for Malians Abroad and African Integration.

The minister explained that the repatriation of Malians from Port-Bouët followed the eviction and demolition of precarious habitats as part of Côte d’Ivoire’s urbanization policy.

He mentioned that the first flight repatriated 150 adults and 25 children, while the second flight included 182 adults and 58 children, totaling 415 Malians from Port-Bouët.

Mossa Ag Attaher highlighted the challenging conditions faced by Malian migrants due to regional and international migration policies, which have made living conditions difficult in many transit and host countries.

Mohamed Lamine Bane, the head of migration at the High Council of Malians Abroad, noted that the 4,577 repatriated Malians came from Algeria, Niger, Libya, Côte d’Ivoire, and Mauritania, among others.

These migrants were provided with assistance, housing, food, and care for 72 hours. Bane also noted that the support provided varies depending on the circumstances of each migrant.
