Pastef Claims Landslide Victory in Senegal’s Legislative Elections

Provisional results from Senegal’s early legislative elections held on November 17 reveal a commanding victory for Pastef – Les Patriotes, securing 130 seats in the National Assembly.

The results were announced by the National Commission for the Counting of Votes, led by magistrate Abdoulaye Ba, on Thursday.

With 3,649,959 voters casting their ballots out of 7,371,891 registered voters, voter turnout was 49.5%, with 26,326 invalid ballots reported.

Pastef – Les Patriotes, led by Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, emerged as the dominant force with 130 seats.

The Takku Wallu Senegal coalition, under former President Macky Sall, followed with 16 seats.

Jamm akk Njerign, led by former Premier Amadou Ba, secured 7 seats.

Samm sa Kaddu, led by Dakar’s mayor Barthélémy Dias, obtained 3 seats.

These results await validation by the Constitutional Council, as required under Article L193 of the Electoral Code.

The election reflects a significant shift in Senegal’s political landscape, with Pastef – Les Patriotes emerging as the primary political force.
