PNC Presidential Aspirant Sues Ghana’s Electoral Commission Over Disqualification

The Presidential Aspirant for the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah has taken legal action against Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) following his disqualification from the presidential race.

He was disqualified along with ten other candidates for failing to correct errors in their nomination forms.

During a press conference last Friday, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa stated that Mornah violated electoral rules by using registered voters from one district to support nominations in other districts, which contributed to his disqualification.

Mornah, however, contends that his disqualification was unlawful and has filed a suit at the Accra High Court, dated September 24, 2024. In his application, he is seeking a declaration that the EC had no valid grounds for his disqualification, arguing that his fundamental human rights were breached.

He is also requesting the court to quash the EC’s decision, reinstate him in the race, and prevent the printing of ballot papers until his candidacy is restored.
