The Port of Cotonou has experienced a huge decline in turnover due to the recent diplomatic crisis between Niger and Benin.
The Director General of the port platform reported that the turnover of the Autonomous Port of Cotonou has dropped by 10 to 15%. In terms of volume, the impact is estimated to be between 20 and 30%.
Before the crisis, the Autonomous Port of Cotonou (PAC) handled 95 to 100 ships every 30 days.
However, since the onset of the crisis, the port has been receiving only 70 to 80 ships within the same period.
Despite the reduced numbers, port officials clarify that the port is not empty or at a standstill.
Authorities acknowledge that the prolonged duration of the crisis has exacerbated the situation beyond their initial expectations.
