More Nigerians are struggling to maintain a balanced diet as inflation continues to drive up the cost of healthy meals.
According to the latest figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Nigeria’s food inflation rate surged to 32.15% in August 2024, significantly increasing the cost of nutritious diets.
The NBS reported that the average daily cost of a healthy diet in Nigeria has reached N1,255 (approximately $0.76), making it challenging for many households to afford.
The North-West recorded the lowest average cost for a healthy diet, while the South-West registered the highest.
Fruits and vegetables have become the most expensive food groups, measured in terms of price per calorie, further straining household budgets amidst rising food costs.
