The Senegalese government, in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), has launched a national action plan to combat human trafficking.
This initiative coincides with the International Day against Trafficking in Persons, themed “Let’s leave no child behind in the fight against human trafficking.”
The 2024 observance is dedicated to children, who represent a significant proportion of trafficked victims worldwide, with girls being disproportionately affected.
In Senegal, UNODC reports a rise in trafficking, particularly in the gold mining sites of the Kedougou region.
The national action plan aims to address the growing concern of human trafficking through comprehensive measures and increased awareness.
By focusing on vulnerable populations, especially children, the initiative seeks to mitigate the impact of trafficking and enhance protective mechanisms.
