Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has signed a decree establishing Monday, December 2, 2024, as the commencement date for the first ordinary session of the newly elected legislature.
The announcement follows the Constitutional Council’s confirmation of the final results from the November 17 early legislative elections, which saw the Pastef party, led by Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, secure a commanding victory with 130 of the 165 seats in Parliament.
The Takku Wallu Senegal coalition, headed by former President Macky Sall, won 16 seats, while Jam Ak Njerign, led by former Prime Minister Amadou Ba, claimed seven.
Barthélémy Dias’ coalition secured three seats.
The Constitutional Council praised the transparency and serenity of the electoral process, reinforcing Senegal’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
The Pastef party’s dominant victory positions it as a key force in shaping Senegal’s legislative agenda.
