Sierra Leone Delegation Visits Ghana for Learning Exchange on Police Reforms

A government delegation from Sierra Leone, co-led by Major General (Rtd.) David Taluva, Minister of Internal Affairs, and Fredrick Ampiah, UNDP Resident Representative, is currently in Ghana for a learning exchange focused on police reforms. This visit, facilitated by UNDP Sierra Leone as part of its Inclusive Democratic Governance Portfolio, aims to gain insights and best practices from Ghana’s successful transition from a Police Force to a Police Service.

The visit is centered on understanding how Ghana’s Ministry of the Interior collaborates with its agencies to maintain law and order while strengthening public trust in the police. The Sierra Leonean delegation has engaged in discussions with Ghana’s Minister of the Interior, Henry Quartey, and the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, to delve into the strategies and policies that have contributed to Ghana’s police reforms.

Major General (Rtd.) David Taluva emphasized the importance of these reforms for Sierra Leone, noting that stabilizing the country through a service-oriented police force is crucial for attracting investors and enhancing economic development.

This exchange marks a significant step in Sierra Leone’s efforts to transform its police force, with the hope of adopting similar reforms to foster public trust and create a safer environment conducive to national development.
