Sierra Leone Launches New National Airline, Air Sierra Leone

The Government of Sierra Leone has officially launched “Air Sierra Leone,” the nation’s new flag carrier, with operations set to begin on December 2, 2024.

This initiative aims to improve both domestic and international travel connections.

Transport and Aviation Minister Alhaji Fanday Turay emphasized the airline’s significance in advancing Sierra Leone’s aviation infrastructure, following foreign investments in a state-of-the-art international airport.

The country now handles up to 50 flights per week.

Air Sierra Leone will offer regional routes to cities such as Accra, Monrovia, and Dakar, as well as international flights to London’s Gatwick Airport.

Flights to London will operate three times a week, with ticket prices starting at $750 for early bookings.

The airline will also create job opportunities for Sierra Leoneans, with training provided to meet international standards.

The airline is collaborating with Nigeria’s Xejet Limited and is working to obtain an Airline Operating Certificate to lift Sierra Leone from the European aviation blacklist, which has been in place since 2008.
