The Gambian government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with China during a ceremony in Banjul commemorating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
The event, attended by high-ranking officials, diplomats, and business leaders from both countries, highlighted the growing importance of their relationship.
This renewed partnership follows The Gambia’s decision to re-establish diplomatic ties with China in 2016, after previously recognizing Taiwan for nearly two decades.
Since then, both countries have been focused on enhancing cooperation across various sectors, including infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, and education.
The Chinese ambassador to The Gambia, Ma Jianchun, and Gambian Foreign Minister Mamadou Tangara during the meeting noted the mutual respect and shared goals between the two nations.
They acknowledged that China’s role in the international community has significantly evolved since the founding of the PRC in 1949 and affirmed that Gambia is committed to deepening its cooperation with Beijing in line with the ‘One-China’ policy.
