The Togolese government has made the fight against flooding a top priority for 2025, allocating nearly 1.5 billion CFA francs to address the issue in the capital and other high-risk areas.
The Ministry of Water and Sanitation announced the initiative, which focuses on constructing and rehabilitating critical infrastructure to mitigate the impacts of climate change and reduce flood risks in vulnerable communities.
This ambitious project will target areas most susceptible to flooding, aiming to protect lives, safeguard property, and enhance resilience to extreme weather events.
It forms part of the government’s broader strategy to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable urban development.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our citizens while addressing the growing threat of climate change,” stated a Ministry spokesperson.
The government’s efforts are expected to significantly improve flood management and prevention across Togo, particularly in regions prone to seasonal flooding.
