Togo’s Opposition ANC to Boycott February 2025 Senatorial Elections

Togo’s National Alliance for Change (ANC), a prominent opposition party, has announced its decision to boycott the senatorial elections scheduled for February 2025.

In a statement released over the weekend, the ANC strongly criticized the elections, describing them as part of a broader rejection of the recently adopted constitution, which shifts Togo to a parliamentary system of governance.

The party called its boycott a deliberate act of protest against what it perceives as an unfair political structure imposed by the government.

The ANC’s decision underscores growing political tensions in the country following the constitutional changes, which have been met with opposition from various quarters.

The upcoming elections are seen as a key step in implementing the new governance framework, but the ANC’s absence raises questions about the inclusivity of the process.
