U.S. Embassy Attributes High Visa Rejections in Liberia to Overstays

The United States Embassy in Liberia has attributed the high rate of visa rejections for Liberian citizens to the fact that over 50% of those traveling to the U.S. on tourist visas fail to return within the required timeframe.

U.S. Ambassador to Liberia, Mark Toner, made this statement during an interview on ELBC Radio on Monday, October 7, 2024.

He explained that the widespread violation of visa conditions is a key factor behind the mass denial of visa applications for Liberians.

Toner emphasized, however, that this rejection trend is not exclusive to Liberia but is part of broader U.S. immigration policies and border control measures that are applied globally.

He urged Liberians seeking to visit the U.S. to adhere to visa regulations and comply with their approved stay duration to ensure smoother processing for future applicants.

The Ambassador highlighted that while Liberians do travel to the U.S. on tourist visas, over 50% or more fail to return within the stipulated period, contributing to the increased visa rejections.
