The statue of Ghana’s immediate past President, Nana Akufo-Addo, has been destroyed by unidentified vandals.
Images from the scene reveal the statue’s head severed and lying on the ground, with significant damage to the pedestal. The debris suggests a forceful removal, raising questions about the motives behind the act.
This is not the first attack on the statue, as it had been partially vandalized last month, with one leg damaged.
Unveiled last year in honour of the former leader, the statue sparked backlash on social media. Critics questioned the allocation of public funds for its construction, particularly during a time of economic hardship in the country.
It remains unclear whether authorities will launch an investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
