WFP and EU Provide Financial Aid to Flood Victims in Liberia

In response to the floods that swept across Liberia, the World Food Program (WFP) has allocated $1.5 million in emergency aid to support over 26,000 people who have been severely affected.

The funds are intended to provide immediate relief, including food assistance, to those displaced and struggling in the wake of the disaster.

At a press briefing in Monrovia on Thursday, Ansu Dorley, the Executive Director of the Disaster Management Agency, revealed that this assistance from the WFP is part of international effort to address the crisis.

He also announced that the European Union (EU) has contributed an additional $500,000 to bolster relief efforts, which will be directed toward providing essential supplies, including food, water, and temporary shelter, to the affected populations.

The flooding, which has hit various parts of Liberia, has led to widespread destruction of homes, farmlands, and infrastructure, leaving thousands of families in urgent need of assistance.

The Disaster Management Agency highlighted the importance of continued international support and collaboration to mitigate the long-term effects of the flooding and to strengthen Liberia’s disaster response capabilities for future emergencies.
