WHO Alarmed by Rapid Spread of Mpox in Africa

The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed serious concern over the escalating Mpox outbreak across Africa, with Uganda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo emerging as epicenters of the crisis.

As of December 15, 2024, the viral disease has been reported in at least 20 African countries, with infections and fatalities surpassing 10,000.

The rapid spread highlights significant public health challenges, including gaps in surveillance and healthcare access.

The WHO is urging governments and international partners to enhance surveillance efforts, ensure equitable access to medical care, and implement robust measures to curb Mpox’s transmission.
