Guinea’s opposition coalition Reports Three Dead Amid Escalating Protests

Guinea’s opposition coalition, Forces Vives, has revised the death toll from Monday’s protests to three, as tensions continue to rise across the capital.

Protest organizers allege that over 100 demonstrators were arrested during the unrest. Security forces have maintained a heavy presence in Conakry, with tanks stationed at key strategic points to deter further mobilization.

Forces Vives, a coalition of opposition groups, remains resolute in its demand for a transition to civilian rule, condemning what it calls state repression.

The protests follow the recent decision by Transitional President General Mamady Doumbouya to lift the ban on demonstrations—a move seen by some as a gesture toward political openness but criticized by others as insufficient.

Despite the lifted ban, the government has yet to comment on the casualties or allegations of mass arrests.

Forces Vives has vowed to sustain protests until the military-led government relinquishes power to civilians, signaling continued unrest in the coming weeks.
