Mali’s transitional President, has denounced neocolonialism and the terrorist threat in the Sahel region.
Colonel Asimi Goïta, who was speaking during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), stated that neocolonial forces are seeking to perpetuate their dominance over the region in new forms.
He referenced the recent attack in Tinzaouatene, northern part of the country, to illustrate how international terrorism is manipulated by external forces.
The Malian head of state stressed that the situation demonstrates the need for African countries to take charge of their own security, notably through regional alliances such as the Confederation of Sahel States (AES), formed in July 2024 with Burkina Faso and Niger.
In addition to security concerns, Goïta discussed the significant political and economic reforms being implemented in Mali.
These reforms, according to the president, aim to strengthen governance structures and modernize the country’s electoral processes to ensure more transparent and efficient political systems.
